Wellness Is Worship: A Christian Wellness Journey for Women Over 45

There was a moment that changed everything for me.
It was the moment my faith and fitness became one.

If you are a woman somewhere between 45 and 60, you may already know that perimenopause has a way of arriving uninvited and rearranging everything. Your energy shifts. Your sleep changes. Your body feels like a stranger wearing your name. For so many Christian women navigating midlife wellness, the hardest part is not the symptoms themselves. It is doing it without a framework that honors both the science of what is happening and the faith that holds you together. That is exactly what led me here.
I was in the middle of memorizing the Bible, working my way through 1 Corinthians, when I landed on chapter 6, verses 19 and 20. I had read it before. Most of us have. But this time it did not just pass through me. It stopped me.
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."
I sat with those words for a long time. And somewhere in that stillness, something I had been keeping in two separate compartments my whole life finally collapsed into one.
My faith. My body. My wellness. They were never meant to be separate. They were always the same conversation.
The Compartments We Build
Most of us do it without realizing. We have our life with God over here, Sunday mornings, prayer, scripture, devotion. And we have our physical life over there, workouts, what we eat, how we sleep, how we manage stress. We move between the two like they belong to different versions of ourselves.
But 1 Corinthians 6 does not leave room for that division. It says plainly that this body, the one carrying you through every season of life, is sacred. It is a dwelling place. And how we tend to it is an act of worship or an act of neglect. There is no neutral ground.
That was the moment I stopped treating my wellness as a health goal and started treating it as a relational practice with God.
What 5am Actually Looks Like
I want to tell you about my mornings because I think it will help you understand what I mean when I say wellness is worship.
I wake up before the world. I meditate. I pray. I open His word. And then I walk downstairs to my Tonal and I train.
To someone on the outside it might look like discipline. Like a fitness routine. Like the kind of thing you applaud and admire and secretly wonder how someone sustains. But from the inside it feels like something else entirely. It feels like communing. It is all one continuous conversation with God. The stillness of prayer flowing into the movement of strength training, my body becoming the living extension of what I received from Him.
I am not separating the sacred from the sweat. I never am. They are the same act of devotion, just expressed differently across the hour.
That is what Wellness is Worship is. Not perfect. Not painless. But purposeful in a way that nothing else in my day quite touches.
She Is Never Alone
I built this space because of a woman I know very well.
She is somewhere between 45 and 60. She is strong in ways the world does not always see. She is navigating changes in her body that nobody prepared her for, shifts in her hormones, her energy, her sleep, her sense of self. She is holding families together and managing responsibilities and showing up for everyone while quietly wondering who is showing up for her.
She has maybe let her wellness slide not because she does not care but because she has been giving everything she has to everyone else. And some mornings faith feels distant too, not because God has moved, but because exhaustion has a way of making even the sacred feel far away.
I know her because I am her. I have been her. I am still her on the hard mornings.
And what I need her to know, what I need you to know if you are reading this, is that you are not alone. You have never been alone. God has been beside you in every season you thought you were carrying by yourself. Every hard morning. Every silent struggle. Every moment you wondered if anyone understood what you were going through.
Someone does. I do.
And we can get through this together. With God beside us and the truth of His word to anchor us, we can honor these bodies, reclaim our strength, and walk into the second half of our lives with intention, power, and grace.
This Is What Debrajjean Wellness Is
